Kai's Story
Life
Hello to anyone reading! I hope life's been kind to you. I've survived several lifetimes' worth of curveballs, and thanks to resilience and sheer luck I'm still standing.
I joined the Army right out of high school, to serve my country and get some badly needed discipline in my life. Later, as a civilian, I worked retail until my nerdy juvenile obsession with computers suddenly started to pay off; that paid the bills (more or less) until the VA awarded me service-connected disability benefits in 2001 (PTSD, brain injury). I wisely escaped from uptight Orange County to lovely, laid-back Santa Cruz in 1993 and can't imagine ever leaving now.
I spend much of my days now doing various music-related things that include making music for myself and sometimes others, broadcast radio engineering and production, public affairs, event production, stage management, and avo...Expand for more
iding the horrible buskers downtown.
I've done a decent amount of community volunteer work in my life, primarily around HIV/AIDS, queer, progressive, and veterans' issues. I am a shameless news junkie, and I am always behind on answering email (scrambled brain). Other interests include cycling, SF Giants baseball, cooking Asian fusion style, the outdoors.
I doubt this will be much of a surprise to anyone who knew me well, but I am male now, 24/7. I am truly happy and comfortable in my skin for the first time in my whole life. Closer to "normal" than I've ever known. Easily the best decision I've ever made; I wish it hadn't taken me 35 years to sort it out so I could get on with living my life, but I have zero regrets.
Thanks for reading. I love to hear from old friends and make new ones. Please don't forget to include your email address! (p.s. I'm also on the FB.)
